Scheffler and McIlroy Set for Rematch in Second Optum Golf Channel Games
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will return for a second edition of the Optum Golf Channel Games, scheduled for broadcast on Wednesday, Dec. 16. The event will air across both Golf Channel and USA Sports, though the venue has not yet been announced. While the two headliners are confirmed, the remaining six-man field for the competition has not been publicly revealed.
The inaugural event, held last December at Trump National Golf Club Jupiter, utilized a made-for-TV format focusing on entertainment rather than traditional stroke play. Scheffler and McIlroy served as captains, drafting four-man teams to compete in timed driving challenges, a 14-club closest-to-the-pin contest, and a four-man relay. The previous installment concluded with a tight finish, decided by a tape-measure playoff following a 47-yard chip-off.
The return of the event highlights a broader shift in golf media toward alternative programming formats. This trend parallels the growth of tech-driven leagues such as TGL, a venture co-founded by McIlroy. As media companies seek to engage audiences outside the standard tournament calendar, these skill-based competitions offer a different viewing product.
The broadcast is part of the programming strategy for Golf Channel, which operates under Comcast Corporation. Versant, the parent of Golf Channel, completed its spinoff from Comcast Corporation in January 2026. Since the separation, network executives have indicated increased autonomy to experiment with event formats and content.
Currently, Comcast Corporation trades at $23.57, up 0.46% from the previous close. The company holds a market capitalization of approximately $83.5 billion.
