The team’s parent company, Spurs Sports & Entertainment, has not publicly disclosed the reasoning behind the split, opting not to comment on the personnel matter.

Reports indicate the departure follows the circulation of a serious allegation on social media. An account on X, formerly Twitter, shared a screenshot allegedly from Tobey’s own profile. The text purportedly admits to infidelity with Loren Waters, who is identified as the sister of Spurs forward Lindy Waters III. While local media outlets like KSAT have verified Tobey’s exit, they could not independently confirm the authenticity of the specific post or the circumstances surrounding its publication.

Tobey’s exit comes just weeks after he publicly celebrated a new contract. In a June 18 post on X, he stated he had signed a multi-year extension to continue broadcasting, expressing his enthusiasm for the city and organization. He had recently completed his second full season on the job, having been hired in October 2024 to replace veteran announcer Bill Land. Prior to his tenure in San Antonio, Tobey worked as a sports anchor in Tulsa and Denver and called games for the Pac-12 Network and Fox Corporation’s sports programming division.

Waters, the individual named in the allegation, is an accomplished filmmaker and producer. A citizen of the Cherokee Nation and Kiowa heritage, she founded Waters Media. Her work includes contributions to the series Reservation Dogs and the short documentary Tiger, which earned the Short Film Special Jury Award for Directing at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
