Steelers Training Camp Battle Looms at Wide Receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to have solved their lack of depth at the pass-catching positions heading into the 2026 season. With the acquisition of Michael Pittman Jr. joining DK Metcalf, the team faces a positive dilemma: determining who will claim the No. 3 wide receiver spot. The competition is expected to center on two young players looking to make their mark, Roman Wilson and Germie Bernard.

Bernard, a rookie drafted 47th overall out of Alabama in the second round, brings significant collegiate production to the table. Over two seasons with the Crimson Tide, he recorded 114 receptions for 1,656 yards and nine touchdowns. Standing 6-foot-1, Bernard enters the league with high expectations, with some analysts projecting a long professional career comparable to that of veteran receiver Robert Woods.

Wilson offers a different narrative. A 2024 draftee from Michigan, Wilson accumulated 107 receptions for 1,707 yards and 20 touchdowns across four seasons with the Wolverines. His professional start was hampered by injuries during his rookie year, limiting him to a single appearance. While he saw more action in the subsequent season, he eventually became a healthy scratch late in the year. Despite finishing with 12 catches for 166 yards and two scores, including a notable performance against the Green Bay Packers, Wilson is looking for consistency in 2026.

Recent reports indicate the two receivers have been training together during the offseason. As the Steelers approach their summer minicamp at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, the internal battle for snaps behind the established starters will be a key storyline to monitor.

The Steelers’ performance and fan engagement this season will be broadcast across various platforms, including Peacock, a service operated by Comcast Corporation. As of the latest market check, Comcast Corporation is trading at $23.34, up 0.28%.
