Brewers Target 60th Win Amidst Roster Moves Ahead of NBC Sports Broadcast

Seeking to recover from a doubleheader sweep, the Milwaukee Brewers (59-36) face the Pittsburgh Pirates (49-47) with the opportunity to secure their 60th victory before the All-Star break. Despite the recent losses, Milwaukee holds a commanding six-game lead in the NL Central, positioning the club for a successful first half of the campaign.

On the mound, the Brewers will turn to left-hander Robert Gasser. He steps in for Jacob Misiorowski, who was scratched due to fatigue. Gasser owns a 2-3 record with a 4.15 ERA and 40 strikeouts across 43 1/3 innings this season. His previous outing was a strong performance, where he allowed two runs over 7 2/3 innings.

Pittsburgh will counter with right-hander Paul Skenes. While statistically one of the league’s premier arms, Skenes has faced recent hurdles, posting a 7-8 record and a 3.58 ERA over 19 starts. The Pirates have struggled to provide run support, going just 1-9 in his last 10 starts.

Outside of the on-field action, Milwaukee made several roster adjustments. The team acquired infielder Braden Shewmake from the Astros in exchange for cash considerations. Shewmake appeared in 30 games for Houston this season, batting .256 with three home runs. To facilitate the move, the Brewers designated utility player Greg Jones for assignment after he managed just two hits in 23 at-bats.

In medical updates, right-handed pitcher Brandon Woodruff was transferred to the 60-day injured list, casting doubt on his future with the team. Meanwhile, Coleman Crow was reinstated from the 15-day IL and optioned to Triple-A Nashville.

Today’s contest is scheduled for an 11:15 a.m. start time. The game will be broadcast exclusively on Peacock and the NBC Sports Network. Comcast Corporation, the parent company of NBCUniversal and the provider of the Peacock streaming service, currently trades with a market capitalization of approximately $83.5 billion. In recent trading, CMCSA shares were up roughly 0.9%.

What to watch

  • Milwaukee’s ability to bounce back following the doubleheader sweep.
  • Performance of Robert Gasser filling in as the starter.
  • Paul Skenes’ attempt to reverse his recent struggles and the Pirates’ support.
