Comcast’s NBC Sports Features Austin Reaves at American Century Championship After Lakers Deal
Comcast Corporation subsidiary NBC Sports recently provided coverage of Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves at the American Century Championship, an event that offered the player a respite following a hectic NBA free agency period. Reaves, who reportedly agreed to a four-year, $185 million contract to remain with Los Angeles, participated in the celebrity golf tournament just days after securing his new deal.
The NBC Sports interview highlighted the intense negotiations Reaves experienced leading up to the signing. He revealed that at the peak of the free agency frenzy, he spent between five to seven hours daily on calls with his agents. The situation became challenging enough that it interrupted his practice time on the golf course. Reaves noted that he eventually played an entire round with his agents on speakerphone, placing the device on the ground to hit shots before resuming conversations.
Reaves is an avid golfer and the founder of “Hillbilly Bogey,” a golf-focused content brand he created with friend Trent Swaim. The brand operates a YouTube channel documenting their time on the course. The name plays on Reaves’ “Hillbilly Kobe” nickname, a moniker he earned during his high school basketball career in Arkansas. He mentioned that while his performance during the tournament’s first day was not his best, he was grateful for the opportunity to relax with his brother caddying for him now that his contract status is settled.
Comcast, trading at approximately $23.57 with a market capitalization of roughly $83.5 billion, operates through segments including Media and Studios. NBC Sports serves as a key component of the company’s media portfolio, broadcasting various sporting events and producing related digital content.
