NBC Secures MLB Broadcasting Rights as Early 2027 Fantasy Rankings Surface
As the industry looks toward the 2027 season, early fantasy projections indicate significant shifts in player valuations, with rising stars James Wood and Junior Caminero breaking into the top five overall rankings. This forward-looking market for player performance comes alongside a major development in sports media rights, impacting how fans will consume the game.
NBC and Peacock are set to become the exclusive home of Sunday Night Baseball starting in 2026. The deal, orchestrated by Comcast Corporation, includes broadcasting rights for MLB Sunday Leadoff, Opening Day, and Labor Day primetime games. The agreement also encompasses the first round of the MLB Draft and the entire Wild Card round of the postseason. Comcast shares were trading at $23.97 on Wednesday, up 1.4% from the previous close, giving the communication services giant a market capitalization of approximately $83.5 billion.
While broadcast agreements evolve, player performance projections for 2027 suggest a changing of the guard. According to recently released rankings, Bobby Witt Jr. of the Royals holds the top spot, followed by Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani. Notably, Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood jumps to the number four overall ranking, rising significantly from previous pre-season projections. Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero also secures a top-five position.
The rankings also highlight stability at the top of the pitching market, with Tarik Skubal ranked as the number one starting pitcher and 12th overall. Other veterans like Juan Soto (Mets) and Ronald Acuna Jr. (Braves) remain in the top ten, while rookie Nick Kurtz of the Athletics appears at number six.
