Media Giants Weigh Brewers’ Title Chances Amid Injury Concerns

As the Milwaukee Brewers approach the All-Star break with a 59-37 record, major sports media outlets are debating whether the team can sustain its success despite significant pitching injuries. The franchise is on pace to potentially reach 100 wins, though the recent placement of Brandon Woodruff on the 60-day injured list and the IL status of Kyle Harrison have raised concerns about rotation depth.

Fox Corporation subsidiary Fox Sports currently ranks the Brewers at No. 2 in its power rankings. Analyst Rowan Kavner noted that while the team “limps into the break” after being swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates, they still hold a five-game lead in the NL Central. Kavner suggested the front office needs to be aggressive at the trade deadline to support the pitching staff and bolster their October roster.

Other broadcasters and publishers covering the league are similarly high on Milwaukee, though cautious. Bleacher Report and CBS Sports both kept the Brewers at the No. 2 spot this week. CBS Sports highlighted that the team is exceeding expectations and “on pace to win 100 games,” which would surpass the franchise record of 97 wins set last season.

These rankings and analyses are distributed by some of the largest publicly traded media companies in the sector. Fox Corporation (FOXA), which operates the Fox Sports cable network programming segment, saw its stock increase by 2.53% today, closing at $56.81. Meanwhile, Comcast Corporation (CMCSA), the media and technology conglomerate that operates NBC Sports, saw shares rise 2.55% to $24.10.

What to watch

  • Trade deadline acquisitions aimed at stabilizing the Brewers’ starting rotation.
  • Health updates on Brandon Woodruff and Jacob Misiorowski.
  • NBC Sports and Fox Sports viewership ratings for second-half MLB broadcasts.
