Following a second-round 66, DeChambeau was penalized two strokes by the R&A for inadvertently improving the area of his intended swing in the fescue rough on the fifth hole.

The extended airtime provided additional inventory for advertisers, though viewership numbers for the specific window were not immediately available. With NBC holding the rights to the weekend coverage, the controversy may generate heightened interest for the tournament’s final rounds. Reports indicate DeChambeau was initially undecided on continuing his participation due to the ruling, potentially impacting the weekend narrative.
