Comcast’s Telemundo and Peacock Log Record Spanish Viewership for World Cup Semifinals

The 2026 World Cup semifinals delivered historic audiences across broadcast platforms, including record-breaking numbers for Spanish-language coverage. Comcast Corporation reported that its joint presentation on Telemundo and Peacock attracted a total audience of 11.4 million viewers for Argentina’s victory over England. This figure marks the highest viewership ever recorded for a World Cup semifinal in Spanish-language media history.

The surge in viewership represents a significant increase compared to the previous tournament. Viewership for the Argentina match rose 139% compared to Lionel Messi’s semifinal appearance in the 2022 World Cup, which drew an average minute audience of 6.2 million. Across both semifinal matches, Telemundo and Peacock secured an average audience of 10.6 million viewers, a 136% jump from the 4.5 million average recorded during the 2022 semifinals.

The second semifinal, featuring Spain’s win over France, contributed to the overall growth with a total audience of 9.8 million on the Spanish-language platforms. These results are part of a broader trend for the tournament, which has featured an expanded field of 48 teams and 104 total matches. Through the semifinal stage, the tournament has averaged 6 million viewers per match on Telemundo and its associated properties, an increase of 147% over the 2.4 million average during the same stage in 2022.

The record viewership highlights Comcast’s strategy to leverage major sporting events across its linear and streaming assets. Earlier this year, the company also noted a milestone for the Super Bowl halftime show, which became the most-watched Spanish-language halftime show in history. Comcast’s stock was trading at $23.79 on Friday, reflecting a slight decline from the previous close.

What to watch

  • Upcoming broadcast numbers for the World Cup Final and third-place match.
  • Future earnings reports to assess the impact of increased streaming subscriptions on Peacock.
