Pogacar Extends Tour de France Lead with Stage 14 Victory in Alsace

Tadej Pogacar continues to dictate the narrative at this year’s Tour de France. The Slovenian cyclist secured a dominant win on the 14th stage Saturday, attacking on the final ascent in Le Markstein to claim his fourth stage victory of the 2024 race. This performance further solidified his advantage in the general classification as he eyes a historic fifth title.

Racing in rainy conditions across a 155-kilometer route featuring three Category 1 climbs in the Alsace region, Pogacar timed his move perfectly. With 1.6 kilometers remaining on the Col du Haag, he surged clear of his rivals. His primary competitor, two-time champion Jonas Vingegaard, was unable to match the acceleration and ultimately finished behind the race leader.

Pogacar now leads Vingegaard by 4 minutes and 30 seconds overall. Remco Evenepoel sits in third place, 5:04 behind, while 19-year-old French hopeful Paul Seixas moved into fourth at 5:19 back. The podium places are taking shape, though the battle for the remaining spots remains intense.

Team dynamics played a role in the day’s result. UAE Emirates XRG, Pogacar’s squad, set a high tempo to control the race, setting the stage for their leader’s decisive attack. Isaac Del Toro, a 22-year-old teammate, showcased his potential by finishing second on the stage.

While the focus remains on the peloton in France, the broader sports and fitness market continues to fluctuate. Companies in the leisure and fitness sectors, such as Peloton Interactive, Inc., are navigating current trading conditions. As of the latest session, Peloton was down 2.08%.

The riders will face a significant challenge Sunday during the 15th stage, which concludes with a grueling “Beyond Category” ascent up Plateau de Solaison in the French Alps. Following Monday’s second rest day, the race will continue its march toward the traditional finish in Paris on July 26.

What to watch

  • Stage 15 results following the Plateau de Solaison ascent.
  • Peloton Interactive, Inc. share price movement (currently $6.12).
  • Final General Classification standings after the rest day.
