Ted Lasso, Coach Beard Make Surprise World Cup Final Appearance

In a crossover between fiction and global sports, actors Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt appeared during the halftime show of the FIFA World Cup Final. Reprising their roles as the optimistic AFC Richmond manager Ted Lasso and his assistant Coach Beard, the duo participated in a skit involving pop star Justin Bieber.

During the broadcast, Hunt held up a substitution board reading “JB” while Sudeikis offered encouragement to the singer. The moment was part of an unprecedented 12-minute intermission performance that also featured high-profile acts such as Madonna, BTS, Shakira, and the Muppets. This marked the first occasion in which a World Cup Final has incorporated a dedicated halftime show.

The appearance carries significant resonance for the broadcasting partners involved. Fox Corporation, which operates the Cable Network Programming segment producing and licensing news and sports content, is broadcasting the event. Fox shares were trading at $57.62 in the current session, up 2.8% from the previous close of $56.05. The company holds a market capitalization of approximately $23.47 billion.

The *Ted Lasso* character has deep roots in sports broadcasting history, having originated in 2013 promotional videos for NBC’s coverage of the English Premier League. Comcast Corporation, the parent company of NBCUniversal, operates through Media and Studios segments among others. Comcast stock was trading lower today at $23.79, down 1.37% from a prior close of $24.12, with a market cap of roughly $85.63 billion.

The Emmy-winning series is set to return for its fourth season on August 3 following a three-year hiatus. The skit aired as the championship match between Argentina and Spain reached the break locked at a 0-0 draw.
