Streaming Rights Deal Bolsters Comcast Amid Fantasy Baseball Rotation Moves

As fantasy managers adjust their lineups for the second half of the season, the broader sports media landscape continues to shift. A major development on the business side involves Major League Baseball’s broadcast future, which is set to feature a significant presence from Comcast Corporation.

Comcast, the parent company of NBC and Peacock, has secured a comprehensive package of MLB media rights beginning in 2026. The agreement designates Peacock as the exclusive home of Sunday Night Baseball. Beyond weekly primetime games, NBC Sports will broadcast “Opening Day,” Labor Day games, the MLB Draft’s first round, and the entire Wild Card round of the postseason. This expansion of sports content comes as Comcast maintains a significant market capitalization of approximately $84.9 billion. Shares of Comcast were recently trading at $23.81, down slightly from the previous close.

While media giants prepare for future broadcasts, current on-field performance is driving fantasy decisions. Minnesota Twins pitcher Zebby Matthews has emerged as a short-term target, available in roughly 87 percent of Yahoo leagues. Matthews has struggled with a 5.40 ERA this season, partly due to a dip in velocity and a regression of his slider. However, an upcoming schedule featuring the Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals presents a favorable window for production. Analysts note that his command remains solid, but his current strikeout rate of 19.5 percent is a drop from his 24.9 percent mark in 2023.

On the offensive side, Los Angeles Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel is gaining traction after a slow start caused by an ankle injury. Since returning to health in mid-June, Schanuel has posted a .352 batting average over 23 games. His .374 expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA) places him among the league’s better hitters during this stretch, supported by a low 11 percent strikeout rate and a high line drive rate. While his power and stolen base metrics have yet to return to rookie levels, his move to the third spot in the batting order against right-handed pitching increases his potential for runs and RBIs.

What to watch

  • Comcast’s integration of MLB streaming assets ahead of the 2026 season launch.
  • Zebby Matthews’ performance against weaker lineups (A’s, Royals) through early August.
  • Nolan Schanuel’s continued production as he assumes a full-time role in the Angels lineup.
