Public Poll Invites Golfers to Rate SouthCoast’s Best Courses

As the golf season hits its peak, a new public poll is asking players to rate the top venues across the SouthCoast region. The selection includes a diverse mix of private clubs and public-access layouts, ranging from historic tracks built before 1960 to modern designs constructed in later decades. Voting for the SouthCoast Golf Course of the Year for 2026 is currently open, with ballots accepted until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 31.

The list of nominees features several notable venues. Among the “classic” courses built before 1960 is the Allendale Country Club in Dartmouth, an 18-hole, par-72 championship layout. Also included is the Country Club of New Bedford, a members-only facility in North Dartmouth known for hosting the CCNB Men’s Four-Ball. The category also includes the private Reservation Golf and Beach Club in Mattapoisett, established in 1895, and the Marion Golf Club, a public 9-hole course dating back to 1904.

The “modern” category highlights courses such as Acushnet River Valley, located on Main St. in Acushnet, which stretches up to 6,807 yards. Other nominees include Lakeville Country Club, a public 18-hole course recognized for its scenic fishing holes, and the Rochester Golf Club, an 18-hole public course set within wooded terrain. The list also features Little Harbor Golf Course in Wareham and Heritage Hill Golf Course in Lakeville, which offers a flexible par 54 or par 60 layout.

While these local courses vie for regional recognition, the broader golf industry remains a significant segment of the leisure sector. Acushnet Holdings Corp., the parent company of major golf brands like Titleist and FootJoy, is a key publicly traded player in this space. The company, which operates in the equipment and apparel markets, currently has a market capitalization of approximately $6.4 billion. Shares of Acushnet were recently trading around $109.40, reflecting a decline of 1.91% from the previous close.
