Addressing the situation on Tuesday, the organization stated that its security personnel interviewed the individual who was struck. According to the team, that fan declined to request the ejection of the other patron and expressed that he considered the matter resolved. Consequently, the Cubs stated they intend to respect the wishes of the involved party rather than enforce further penalties.

While the team refrained from disciplining the aggressor, a spokesperson emphasized the significance of anthem ceremonies at the venue. The Cubs maintain a strict policy prohibiting physical altercations between attendees, though enforcement in this instance was limited by the victim’s preference to move past the event.

Following the game, the fan responsible for the slap expressed regret over his actions in an interview with Inside Edition. He acknowledged that his reaction was excessive, noting that he fought in Vietnam for the rights of citizens, which includes the choice to sit or stand. He later reconciled with the younger fan during the game, describing that the pair shared a beer and shook hands.
