Panthers Reinforce Roster with UFL Star Gill Following Training Camp Injury
The Fox Corporation-backed Carolina Panthers are making roster adjustments just days into training camp. The team has signed outside linebacker Cam Gill and rookie offensive tackle Derrell Bailey. The move for Gill comes as a direct response to a significant setback for the defense, as second-year pass rusher Nic Scourton suffered an ACL tear and has been placed on injured reserve.
Gill returns to the organization after spending the 2024 season with the Panthers, where he recorded 22 combined tackles across 10 appearances. Before his stint in Carolina, the Wagner College product began his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent four seasons in Tampa, appearing in 40 games and contributing 2.5 sacks while securing a Super Bowl LV ring.
Most recently, Gill showcased his pass-rushing abilities in the spring with the Louisville Kings of the United Football League. He led the league with 11.0 sacks, including one in postseason play, earning the 2026 Defensive Player of the Year honor. He helped guide the Kings to a victory in the United Bowl, the UFL’s championship game.
In addition to Gill’s return, Carolina added depth to the offensive line by signing Derrell Bailey. The 6-foot-6, 320-pound rookie offensive tackle played collegiately at Georgia State University. He was one of six players who participated in a workout for the team on Thursday.
Fox Corporation, the parent company of FOX Sports which first reported the signing, currently trades at $55.60. The stock is up 2.31% today, with a market capitalization of approximately $24.14 billion. The company operates within the Communication Services sector and Entertainment industry, producing and licensing sports content among other media assets.
