WNBA Viewership Hits New High as Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark Drive CBS Record

The Indiana Fever’s matchup against the New York Liberty on July 17 has resulted in another significant viewership milestone for the WNBA. The game, which featured a high-profile showdown between Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu, averaged 2.58 million viewers on CBS, with the audience peaking at approximately 3.09 million.

This performance establishes the broadcast as the most-watched WNBA telecast in CBS history. It ranks as the second-most-viewed game of the 2026 season, trailing only the Fever’s previous contest against the Las Vegas Aces, which averaged 2.64 million viewers on NBC and Peacock. Historically, the July 17 clash sits as the third-most-viewed game in the league’s regular season history.

The Fever secured a 108-88 victory, bolstered by Clark’s 17 points and seven assists. This game adds to the growing list of record-breaking broadcasts associated with Clark since her entry into the league. The surge in interest has been a consistent trend, stretching back to the 2024 WNBA Draft, which became the most-viewed draft event in league history.

Earlier in the 2025 season, the Fever’s opener against the Chicago Sky—then featuring Angel Reese—set an all-time high with 2.70 million average viewers. The momentum continued on July 15, when the Fever faced the Golden State Valkyries on USA Network, delivering 1.14 million average viewers to mark the network’s most-watched game of the season.

These broadcast figures highlight the growing commercial value of WNBA media rights. The games aired on major networks, including CBS, which is owned by Comcast Corporation. Comcast, currently trading with a market capitalization of approximately $84.9 billion, operates through various segments including media and residential connectivity, positioning it as a key beneficiary of rising sports viewership.
