Joey Votto Recalls 2010 Postseason No-Hitter During NBC Broadcast

Former Comcast Corporation-owned NBC broadcaster Bob Costas recently sat down with longtime Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto during the “Sunday Night Baseball” pregame show. The conversation turned toward Votto’s legacy and how he is perceived nationally, prompting a reference to one of the more disappointing moments in recent Reds history.

Costas inquired whether Votto felt his 17-season career with Cincinnati—a team he noted was only an occasional contender—was fully appreciated on a national stage during his debut on the broadcast. Votto responded by acknowledging the specific familiarity Philadelphia fans likely have with him, though not necessarily for his offensive achievements.

“Any Philly fan knows the Cincinnati Reds because we were no-hit on this field vs. Roy Halladay in 2010,” Votto stated.

The remark refers to Game 1 of the 2010 National League Division Series, where Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay threw a no-hitter against the Reds at Citizens Bank Park. The 4-0 Philadelphia victory secured a dominant start to the series, a game that remains a sore spot for Cincinnati supporters. The Reds were ultimately swept in that series.

This appearance follows Votto’s earlier comments on MLB Network, where he contrasted his experience with the recent success of the Boston Red Sox. He also recently identified Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony as a current hitter whose style reminds him of his own approach.

The broadcast aired on NBC, a key component of Comcast’s media portfolio. Comcast trades under the ticker CMCSA.
