During a recent appearance on NBC’s “Sunday Night Baseball,” former Comcast Corporation broadcast analyst Joey Votto revisited a difficult moment from his tenure with the Cincinnati Reds. Speaking with Bob Costas before the game between the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies, Votto highlighted a specific memory that links him to Phillies fans, albeit for unfortunate reasons.

When asked by Costas if he feels his career is underappreciated nationally given the Reds’ sporadic contention during his 17 seasons in Cincinnati, Votto pointed to the 2010 National League Division Series. He noted that Philadelphia supporters likely recognize him because the Reds were no-hit by Roy Halladay in Game 1 of that series at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies won that contest 4-0, securing the only no-hitter in postseason history at that time.

This isn’t the first time Votto has discussed the landscape of the league recently. Earlier in the week on MLB Network, he commented on the contrast between the Reds’ historical struggles and the Boston Red Sox’s recent success. Additionally, when asked to identify a current player comparable to himself, Votto named Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony.
