University of Virginia rising junior Anna Moech continued her rapid ascent in the sport by lowering her own American record in the women’s 100-meter freestyle at the Toyota USA Swimming National Championships. Competing in Irvine, California, Moesch touched the wall at 51.88 seconds, improving upon the previous mark of 51.94 she set in May.

This performance places Moesch as the fifth-fastest swimmer in history in the event. Only Dutch world record holder Marrit Steenbergen and Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom have recorded faster times.
