CBS Reports Highest PGA Tour Viewership in Two Decades

Comcast Corporation subsidiary CBS is experiencing a significant resurgence in golf viewership, reporting its strongest performance for PGA Tour telecasts since 2006. The network indicates that through the current stage of the season, its broadcasts are averaging 3.50 million viewers. This figure represents the network’s highest average at this point in the year over the last two decades.

A key driver for this recent growth was the final round of the 3M Championship. The Sunday broadcast averaged 3.71 million viewers, doubling the audience from the same event in 2025. This telecast was the most-watched sports event of the week, peaking at 4.87 million viewers. The third-round coverage on Saturday also contributed to the weekend’s success, drawing an average of 2.04 million viewers.

While the numbers are substantial, analysts note that comparisons to previous years are influenced by Nielsen’s transition to a new “Big Data + Panel” methodology, which began in September 2025. This industry-wide shift has generally resulted in higher reported viewership figures for sports, often by margins between 10% and 15%. However, the magnitude of the current increases suggests that growing audience interest is also a primary factor.

This trend is consistent across the broader golf broadcasting landscape. NBC’s coverage of the Travelers Championship final round averaged 4.2 million viewers, the event’s highest figure since 2002. Additionally, the U.S. Open final round attracted 5.5 million viewers, marking the second-highest total for an East Coast edition of the tournament since 2013. CBS also saw success with the PGA Championship in May, where the final round averaged 5.76 million viewers, the best since 2021.

The sustained ratings performance highlights the enduring value of golf as a media property in 2026, even as measurement methodologies evolve. As of the latest market data, Comcast Corporation is trading at $23.51, with a market capitalization of approximately $80.91 billion.
