Tsai Couple Confirms Divorce, Retaining Control of Nets and Liberty

Joseph Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai have confirmed they are divorcing after nearly three decades of marriage, emphasizing that the separation will not alter the governance of their sports holdings. The couple stated their relationship has evolved into a professional partnership focused on business operations and raising their three children. They affirmed intentions to maintain ownership stakes in the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty, as well as their roles within parent company Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment.

Joseph Tsai will continue serving as chairman of BSE and governor of the Nets, while Clara Wu Tsai remains vice chair and governor of the Liberty. The duo indicated that professional management teams remain in place and that their grown children may eventually become involved in the business. The owners have presided over significant milestones recently, including the Liberty’s relocation to Barclays Center and their 2024 WNBA championship victory.

The Tsais entered the New York sports landscape in 2019. Initially minority owners, they purchased the Liberty from Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. that January. Later that year, they secured full ownership of the Nets, completing an acquisition from Mikhail Prokhorov.

Meanwhile, Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. is currently trading at $77.26. The stock has moved -2.03% today, compared to a previous close of $78.86. The company, which operates in the Communication Services sector and Entertainment industry, holds a market capitalization of approximately $3.65 billion.
