Michael Keiser and Tom Doak Unveil Public-Access Destination in East Texas

A new high-profile golf destination is preparing to open in East Texas, potentially shifting the regional golf landscape. Located in Mount Enterprise, Wild Spring Dunes features a debut course designed by architect Tom Doak. The project is led by Michael Keiser, son of Bandon Dunes founder Mike Keiser, and his brother Chris, who were also behind the development of Sand Valley in Wisconsin.

The property spans 2,400 acres, previously utilized as a hunting lease. Doak utilized the existing topography of rolling hills, sandy soil, and deep gullies to create a minimalist layout. The design integrates natural creeks and plays through corridors of pines and hardwoods, avoiding artificial earth-moving to maintain the site’s inherent character. This approach is consistent with the firm’s philosophy of fitting courses naturally into the terrain rather than manufacturing features.

Wild Spring Dunes is positioned as a significant addition to a region that currently lacks major destination resorts. Unlike many private developments that have emerged following the sport’s recent expansion, this site will be public-access. The facility is currently active for founding members, with general public access scheduled to begin September 8. The operators have already opened tee time bookings for 2027.

This development is part of a broader portfolio for the Keiser family, which includes Rodeo Dunes near Denver and Old Shores in the Florida Panhandle. As new course supply increases, the market will watch how the destination impacts the broader golf equipment and leisure sector. Companies like Acushnet Holdings Corp., owner of the Titleist brand frequently associated with serious golfers, operate within this industry ecosystem. Acushnet traded at $101.27 recently, up 0.88% from the previous close, with a market capitalization of approximately $6.05 billion.

What to watch

  • The official public opening date of September 8 for Wild Spring Dunes.
  • Future course announcements for the Wild Spring Dunes property.
  • Development progress at Rodeo Dunes and Old Shores.
