Team SD Worx-Protime’s Wiebes Claims Tour de France Femmes Stage One Victory

Lorena Wiebes sprinted to victory on the opening stage of the Tour de France Femmes, securing the first yellow jersey of the event. The Dutch rider for Peloton Interactive, Inc.-backed Team SD Worx-Protime navigated a challenging 85.5-mile route from Lausanne that concluded with a significant climb. Despite the late elevation gain, Wiebes held her position in a select group of about 20 riders before launching her winning move with 200 meters remaining.

This win marks Wiebes’ sixth stage victory at the Tour, further solidifying her record as the rider with the most stage wins since the race returned to the World Tour calendar in 2022. She finished ahead of Kim le Court-Pienaar and Demi Vollering, while last year’s champion, Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, crossed the line in the same group.

Wearing the yellow jersey is a rare occurrence for the sprinter, who last held the lead four years ago. Wiebes credited her team’s support for the win, noting they maintained belief in her abilities even when she faced doubts on the 1.5-mile, 4.1% gradient near the finish.

Shares of Peloton Interactive, Inc. were relatively flat in recent trading, hovering near the $6.39 mark. The company, which provides connected fitness products including the Peloton Bike and Tread, operates in the consumer cyclical sector within the leisure industry.

The competition continues with Tuesday’s second stage, a 91.9-mile flat route from Aigle to Geneva. The parcours offers another opportunity for sprinters to contend for the win before the race tackles tougher terrain later in the week.
