Peloton Watch: Lorena Wiebes Dominates Second Stage of Tour de France Femmes

Dutch cyclist Lorena Wiebs delivered a masterclass in sprinting to secure victory in the second stage of the Tour de France Femmes. Racing through the streets of Geneva, Wiebs successfully navigated a chaotic finish on the Quai du Mont-Blanc to claim her second consecutive win in the nine-day event. The performance further solidifies her grasp on the overall leaderboard.

The stage was defined by a determined solo breakaway by compatriot Riejanne Markus. Markus managed to build a lead of more than 30 seconds on the flat approach to the city, holding off the chasing pack as the race entered the final 5 kilometers. However, the concerted effort of the peloton eventually proved too strong. The gap closed rapidly in the final kilometers, with the main group swallowing up Markus inside the last 500 meters. From there, Wiebs launched her decisive acceleration to take the win.

While the racing action unfolds in Switzerland, Wiebs’s team remains locked in a legal dispute off the bike. The squad has confirmed its intention to sue the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) regarding a disqualification that occurred during the recent Giro. This administrative battle continues to simmer alongside their competitive successes.
