2027 Recruiting Cycle Kicks Off With Updated Top 100 Rankings

As the high school football season approaches, the recruiting landscape for the class of 2027 is beginning to take definitive shape. Following a summer of significant movement, including commitments and decommitments, USA TODAY High School Sports has released an updated composite ranking of the top 100 senior prospects.

Topping the list is defensive lineman Jalen Brewster from Cedar Hill, Texas. The 6-foot-3, 302-pound prospect has committed to Texas Tech and holds the industry’s top composite ranking score of 2.33. Following closely is interior offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller from Coatesville Area, Pennsylvania, who is pledged to Florida.

Rounding out the top five are EDGE rusher DJ Jacobs (Blessed Trinity Catholic, GA) heading to Ohio State, offensive tackle Mark Matthews (St. Thomas Aquinas, FL) committed to Texas A&M, and wide receiver Easton Royal (Brother Martin, LA) bound for Texas.

The release of these rankings highlights the continued intersection of youth athletics and major media apparel brands. For example, Easton Royal, the fifth-ranked player, gained visibility recently while participating in the Under Armour All-America Game. This event serves as a key marketing platform for Under Armour, Inc., showcasing the company’s connection to the next generation of athletes. As the season progresses, the performance of these high-profile recruits often drives engagement for the platforms and sponsors involved in their development.

With the regular season set to begin, these rankings provide a baseline for prospect valuation, though performances on the field over the coming months will likely lead to further revisions before National Signing Day.

What to watch

  • Upcoming on-field performance of top-ranked prospects during the high school season.
  • Further updates to composite rankings following the conclusion of the regular season.
  • Under Armour’s quarterly earnings for potential commentary on youth marketing initiatives.
