Skye Blakely Set for Full Return at Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships

Gymnast Skye Blakely is scheduled to compete in the all-around at this week’s Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships, marking her first appearance on all four apparatus since suffering a ruptured right Achilles tendon. The injury occurred in the summer of 2024 during floor exercise training, just two days before the Olympic Trials, and required season-ending surgery.

Blakely, a 21-year-old coming off her sophomore year at the University of Florida, previously finished as the runner-up to Simone Biles at the 2024 U.S. Championships. Her return to elite competition has been gradual; at the 2025 event, she placed first on uneven bars and second on balance beam but skipped floor exercise and vault. She has described her comeback as a “measured return” that has been slow and mindful of her physical condition.

This isn’t the first time Blakely has faced a significant setback. At the Tokyo Olympic Trials, she tore an elbow ligament during a vault warm-up, leading to Tommy John surgery. She subsequently recovered to earn spots on world championship-winning U.S. teams in 2022 and 2023. Now, with the Los Angeles Olympics on the horizon in 2028, Blakely looks to establish herself as a veteran presence following the missed opportunity in Paris.

The event serves as a key showcase for the sport and will be broadcast on NBC Sports and Peacock. Comcast Corporation owns the NBCUniversal portfolio, which houses these broadcasting platforms.
