Eagles’ Barkley Praises Value of Wicks Acquisition Amid Offseason Roster Shifts

Running back Saquon Barkley has voiced strong approval of the Philadelphia Eagles’ latest personnel moves, specifically highlighting the acquisition of wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks. The Eagles secured Wicks from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for modest draft capital, sending a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick to Green Bay.

The trade is part of a broader restructuring of the Eagles’ receiving corps following the departure of A.J. Brown. General Manager Howie Roseman also added rookie Makai Lemon with the 20th overall pick, but it is the relatively low cost of obtaining Wicks that has drawn particular attention from the team’s offensive leader.

Speaking to the media, Barkley emphasized the immediate impact Wicks has made during training camp. While Barkley refrained from making definitive projections to avoid placing excessive pressure on the new addition, he characterized the trade as exceptional value given Wicks’s on-field contributions. Barkley noted that Wicks brings high energy to the receiver room and excels as a route runner and pass catcher, while also demonstrating a willingness to block physically in the run game.

Wicks arrives in Philadelphia after three seasons with the Packers. Originally a fifth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, he recorded 11 touchdowns during his collegiate career at Wisconsin. His NFL production with Green Bay saw a statistical decline after his rookie season, where he posted 581 yards. His yardage dropped to 415 in his second season and 332 in his third. Despite this downward trend in yardage, the Eagles see an opportunity for the 25-year-old to develop further within their offensive scheme.
