Ex-Steelers Coach Backs McCarthy-Rodgers Reunion on NBC Broadcast

The recent debut of Thursday Night Football on NBC and Peacock provided a platform for commentary on the current landscape of the NFL, specifically regarding the new leadership in Pittsburgh. During the network’s coverage of the Hall of Fame Game, former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, now an analyst for the broadcast, weighed in on the franchise’s direction under new head coach Mike McCarthy.

Tomlin, who stepped down after a season where acquiring quarterback Aaron Rodgers failed to end the team’s playoff drought, expressed strong support for the pairing of McCarthy and Rodgers. The two have a history of success together with the Green Bay Packers, and Tomlin suggested that track record will be vital as they attempt to guide the Steelers back to contention.

“There’s no substitute for shared success,” Tomlin stated during the pregame show.

The comments come as McCarthy aims to secure a playoff victory for the Steelers, a feat the organization has not achieved since 2016. Tomlin is familiar with the dynamics of a long-standing quarterback-coach partnership, having spent years with Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh, which provides context to his analysis of the new McCarthy era.

The broadcast marks a significant moment for Comcast Corporation, the parent company of NBC and Peacock. As the home of Thursday Night Football, the platform continues to leverage NFL content to drive viewership. Shares of Comcast are currently trading at $25.17, up 1.25% from the previous close, giving the company a market capitalization of approximately $87.15 billion.
