Former Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin Joins NBC Sports Broadcasting Team

Mike Tomlin, who concluded a 19-year tenure as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this year, has officially transitioned into broadcasting. Tomlin made his debut as a football analyst for NBC Sports on Thursday, August 6, during the Hall of Fame Game between the Panthers and Cardinals. He joins the Football Night in America roster, working alongside host Maria Taylor, analyst Mike Florio, and former players Jason Garrett and Devin McCourty.

The move comes after Tomlin stepped down from his coaching position in January. His coaching record with the Steelers included a victory in Super Bowl XLIII and a streak of 19 consecutive non-losing seasons. In his final season with the team, Pittsburgh reached the AFC wild-card round but lost to the Houston Texans. The Steelers have since hired Mike McCarthy as their new head coach for the upcoming 2026 campaign.

Tomlin’s shift from the sidelines to the studio places him under the umbrella of Comcast Corporation, the parent company of NBC Sports. Comcast’s stock was trading at $25.17 during the current session, up 1.25% from the previous close. The company operates across media, technology, and connectivity segments, with its Media division housing the broadcasting rights for Sunday Night Football.

Reaction to Tomlin’s on-air appearance was mixed among NFL fans. While some viewers praised his delivery and drew comparisons to legendary broadcaster John Madden, others noted that seeing the coach without his customary hat felt unusual. NBC Sports welcomed the former coach via social media, highlighting his new role despite his decades of experience on the field.
