LSU Recruits Headline 2026 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships Broadcast Lineup

The 2026 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships are set to commence today in Phoenix, featuring a strong contingent of future LSU talent competing in the senior elite division. The event, a key qualifier for international competitions, will be broadcast across platforms owned by Comcast Corporation, including NBC, Peacock, and NBCSN.

The spotlight falls on three elite prospects: U.S. Classic All-Around champion Reese Esponda, American Classic All-Around champion Tatum Drusch, and 2025 Xfinity U.S. Championships All-Around champion Hezly Rivera. The competition is structured into two sessions, with the first airing tonight and the follow-up session scheduled for Sunday evening. During the opening session, Esponda will begin her campaign on the vault, while Drusch and Rivera will start on the floor exercise.

Esponda arrives in Arizona following a notable victory at the U.S. Classic, where she secured the All-Around title by surpassing two-time Olympian Jade Carey, largely due to high-scoring execution on vault and floor. Despite her athletic success, her academic timeline remains undecided, as she has not publicly confirmed whether she will defer her enrollment at LSU.

Meanwhile, Drusch is looking to rebound after a challenging performance at the U.S. Classic. Her previous meet was hampered by issues on the balance beam, but competitors often view the Classic as a tuning-up event rather than a definitive predictor of Championship form. The most significant storyline, however, surrounds Rivera. The reigning champion returns to competition after withdrawing from the Pan American Championships in June due to a right hamstring injury. Reports vary regarding whether the injury is new or a recurrence of a previous issue, but Rivera is entered in the all-around and is aiming for a spot on the World Championships team after missing the 2025 edition.

Rivera faces stiff competition from defending champions and specialists like Carey and Skye Blakely. In an effort to secure a back-to-back all-around title—a feat not achieved by a U.S. woman other than Simone Biles since Jordyn Wieber—Rivera has reportedly increased the difficulty of her beam routines.

What to watch

  • Media exposure: The two-day event will be distributed across NBC and Peacock, providing significant visibility for Comcast’s streaming and broadcast divisions.
  • Athlete availability: Updates on Hezly Rivera’s health and performance capacity will be crucial for determining her viability for the World Championships team.
  • Recruitment impact: Whether Reese Esponda decides to defer enrollment could impact roster planning for collegiate programs.
