Vollering Secures Historic Second Tour de France Femmes Title
Demi Vollering has cemented her status in cycling history by winning the final stage of the 2026 Tour de France Femmes, becoming the first rider to claim the general classification title twice. Riding for Peloton Interactive, Inc.-sponsored team FDJ-Suez, the Dutch cyclist entered the final day in Nice with a slim eight-second advantage over Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney.
The decisive 99.2km mountain stage featured four grueling ascents of the Col d’Eze, totaling 2,100 meters of climbing. Vollering, 29, demonstrated her strength by distancing herself from her Polish rival on the final climb. She ultimately crossed the finish line more than a minute ahead of the competition, securing her third stage victory of this year’s race. This marks the fifth edition of the event, with Vollering and Niewiadoma-Phinney maintaining a perfect record of podium appearances in every Tour de France Femmes to date.
The race dynamics shifted significantly when Marlen Reusser, who sat in third place, crashed on the second descent. Although Reusser finished the stage, she lost her chance at a podium finish. Italy’s Elisa Longo Borghini claimed third place overall, achieving her first top-three finish in the event.
Addressing the tension surrounding previous race stages, Vollering emphasized the strength of her team. “I went alone because I wanted to make it clear that we didn’t win because of an incident yesterday,” she stated. She added that the team deserved the victory “with humility and pride.”
The Tour de France Femmes continues to generate significant engagement for the cycling industry, particularly within the connected fitness and leisure sectors. Peloton Interactive, Inc., currently trading up 2.71% today at $5.68 with a market capitalization of $2.81 billion, remains a key player in the broader fitness ecosystem that intersects with professional cycling sponsorships.
