Giants Broadcaster Mike Krukow to Retire Following 2026 Season

Longtime San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow has announced he will step away from the booth at the conclusion of the 2026 season. The decision concludes a storied tenure with the organization that began in 1990, with Krukow becoming a full-time member of the broadcast team in 1994.

Krukow cited health challenges related to inclusion body myositis, a degenerative muscle disease he first revealed publicly in 2014, as the primary factor in his retirement. While the physical difficulties of the condition played a role, Krukow indicated that the emotional weight of the decision centered on his partnership with co-commentator Duane Kuiper.

During an interview on KNBR, Krukow described informing Kuiper as the most difficult aspect of the process, noting the deep bond the two have shared over decades. Kuiper, who intends to remain with the Giants broadcast team following Krukow’s departure, expressed that the adjustment would be significant given their extensive history together. The duo, who first met as teammates on the Giants, have been widely recognized for their chemistry, receiving top honors in local broadcast rankings multiple times over the last seven years.

Krukow’s career spans 14 seasons as a Major League Baseball pitcher, including stints with the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies before joining the Giants. His transition to the media landscape established him as a prominent figure in Bay Area sports broadcasting.

The Giants’ broadcasts are currently carried by NBC Sports Bay Area, a regional sports network operated by Comcast Corporation. As a major player in the sports media landscape through its Media segment, Comcast maintains a significant market presence with a capitalization of approximately $89.4 billion. Shares of Comcast Corporation were trading up 0.6% in the current session.
