Comcast Bolsters NBA Coverage with Addition of Play-by-Play Announcer Benetti

Comcast Corporation subsidiary NBC Sports is expanding its broadcast capabilities ahead of the return of NBA coverage. The network announced Thursday that Jason Benetti will join its play-by-play roster for the 2026-27 season. Benetti, currently the voice of NBC’s Sunday Night Baseball, will take on a portfolio of approximately 10 to 20 regular-season and playoff games across NBC and Peacock.

The hiring is a strategic move to deepen the broadcast bench as NBC re-enters the basketball landscape. The network secured a new package of rights to the league previously and is set to debut its coverage with a season-opening tripleheader on Oct. 20. Benetti will not replace existing talent but will instead augment the current lineup, which includes Mike Tirico, Noah Eagle, Terry Gannon, and Michael Grady.

Benetti brings previous professional basketball experience to the role. He has previously filled in on local broadcasts for the Chicago Bulls and Portland Trail Blazers, and he called an NBA playoff game last year between the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics on Peacock.

Comcast, the media and technology conglomerate, trades in the Communication Services sector. As the company prepares to integrate high-profile basketball content into its media segment, its stock recently moved 1.93% higher to a price of $25.96, giving the company a market capitalization of approximately $89.4 billion.
