Netflix Streams Return of MLB Field of Dreams in Iowa

Major League Baseball is set to revive its signature “Field of Dreams” event this evening, marking the game’s return after a three-year hiatus. The Philadelphia Phillies will face the Minnesota Twins in Dyersville, Iowa, with first pitch scheduled for 7:30 PM ET. This year’s contest carries significant weight for media partners, as the game will be streamed exclusively on Netflix, shifting away from traditional linear television broadcasts.

The event returns following site renovations intended to improve the ballpark, which sits approximately 500 feet from the original movie location. The game was previously played in 2021 and 2022, with the Chicago White Sox defeating the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs topping the Cincinnati Reds, respectively. This evening marks the first appearance for both the Phillies and the Twins in the event inspired by the 1989 film starring Kevin Costner.

While the showcase game finds a new streaming home, the broader MLB broadcasting landscape involves several key players. Comcast Corporation retains a substantial role in baseball coverage through its NBCUniversal platforms. The company’s “MLB Sunday Leadoff” and “MLB Sunday Night Baseball” packages are slated to air on NBC and Peacock, providing weekly marquee matchups throughout the regular season.

Financial markets are currently valuing Comcast Corporation at roughly $89.4 billion, with shares trading up 1.87% today. As the media conglomerate continues to integrate sports programming into its streaming strategy, Peacock is set to stream one out-of-market game daily during the 2026 season in addition to its Sunday night lineup.

What to watch

  • Viewership metrics for the Netflix-exclusive broadcast to gauge streaming demand for live sports.
  • NBCUniversal’s execution of its expanded MLB schedule on Peacock and broadcast networks.
  • Future media rights negotiations as leagues continue diversifying digital distribution partners.
