Sports Media Veterans Jastremski, Licata, and Traina Align for New Digital Venture

A trio of established New York sports media personalities are coalescing around a new digital startup. John Jastremski, Sal Licata, and Jimmy Traina are reportedly joining forces for a yet-to-be-named media project, with a launch target set for September, according to reporting by Front Office Sports.

The talent acquisition signals a continued trend of high-profile media personalities moving from traditional broadcasting and legacy publishing to independent digital platforms. The collective experience of the three hosts spans terrestrial radio, digital podcasts, and sports betting analysis, creating a diverse content portfolio for the new venture.

Jastremski brings a background in sports betting and television to the group. After a long tenure at WFAN, he moved to The Ringer in 2021 to host the New York, New York podcast. Following his departure from that Bill Simmons-founded platform earlier this year, he has continued contributing to SNY and the betting network VSiN. His involvement suggests the startup may integrate gambling-related content, a sector that has seen rapid expansion alongside the wider U.S. sports betting market.

Licata, a veteran of New York radio, exited WFAN late last year following a lineup shuffle that brought back Craig Carton. Licata’s history with the station dates back to 2003, eventually rising to co-host the midday slot. Since leaving traditional radio, he has hosted an independent digital show.

Joining them is Traina, who recently departed Sports Illustrated after more than two decades. Traina is well known for his coverage of the sports media industry and his influential “Hot Clicks” column. He previously spent a brief period writing for Fox Sports digital. Fox Corporation, the parent entity of Fox Sports, currently trades with a market capitalization of approximately $26.03 billion within the Communication Services sector.

Traina confirmed the collaboration in his final SI podcast, outlining plans for a weekly audio and video show with Licata, alongside additional podcasts and written content.
