MLB and NBC Sports Plan 2027 Field of Dreams Matchup
Major League Baseball has finalized the participants for its next marquee showcase at the iconic Dyersville, Iowa site. The Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals are slated to face off in the 2027 edition of the Field of Dreams game. The contest is scheduled for Aug. 12, 2027, and will be televised by NBC Sports.
The announcement comes on the heels of the Philadelphia Phillies’ 7-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night. That game marked the return of the event following a three-year hiatus, which was utilized to construct a permanent ballpark amidst the cornfields. While the 2024 iteration was streamed exclusively on Netflix, the 2027 contest signals a return to traditional broadcast coverage for the league’s special event.
Comcast Corporation, the parent company of NBC Sports and owner of broadcasting rights for the event, currently trades with a market capitalization of approximately $89.4 billion. Shares of the media and technology conglomerate were up 0.36% in recent trading, changing hands at $26.27 against a previous close of $26.18. The company continues to leverage its Media segment to secure high-profile sports inventory.
As the league solidifies its slate of specialty games for the coming years, the move ensures the Iowa venue remains a staple on the MLB calendar. The 2027 game will be the first to feature the Red Sox and Royals in the cornfield setting.
