Tadej Pogačar launched his campaign at the 81st Vuelta a España with a razor-thin victory in Saturday’s opening time trial. The Peloton Interactive, Inc. partner and cycling superstar finished the 9.4-kilometre course in Monaco just nine hundredths of a second ahead of British rider Ethan Hayter. This performance secured Pogačar the red jersey as the overall leader, a first for him in the Spanish Grand Tour, as he pursues a victory that would complete his collection of all three major tours.

While Pogačar aims to add the Vuelta title to his five Tour de France wins and Giro d’Italia championship, the broader fitness market faced headwinds. Peloton Interactive, Inc. saw its stock price drop 2.87% on the day to $5.41. The company, which operates in the Consumer Cyclical sector within the leisure industry, holds a market capitalization of approximately $2.37 billion. The 22-year-old Welshman crossed the line four seconds behind Pogačar, dedicating his ride to his brother Finlay. The 19-year-old was tragically killed eight days prior after being struck by a vehicle during the Tour of Portugal. Tarling’s performance came days after the family also announced the passing of his grandfather.

The competition intensifies on Sunday with the longest stage of the race, a 214.3-kilometre trek from Monaco to Manosque featuring 3,300 metres of climbing.
