Acushnet Club Member, 84, Captures Four-Ball Title After Injury Comeback

An 84-year-old golfer has secured her first championship title at the Country Club of New Bedford (CCNB) Women’s Four-Ball, marking a significant personal milestone following a recent injury. Lorraine Duval, a CCNB member, teamed up with Mary Tribou, a member at Acushnet Holdings Corp.’s Acushnet River Valley, to win the tournament on August 21.

Duval’s path to the trophy was complicated by a wrist injury in May that required surgery and kept her off the course until late July. Despite the limited preparation time, the pair defeated Annette Mallen and Kristen Sethares 2-up on the 18th hole in the finals. For Duval, the victory ends a 42-year tenure of participating in the event without previously winning, though she had reached the semifinals in the past.

The partnership between Duval and Tribou began in 2025 when Duval needed a new teammate. Tribou, who has played in the CCNB Four-Ball intermittently for 30 years, noted the event remains a cherished tradition for the local golf community. The duo emphasized their reliance on one another and a shared goal of enjoying the competition.

Acushnet Holdings Corp., which is connected to the venue through the Acushnet River Valley club, currently trades with a market capitalization of approximately $5.19 billion. The company operates through segments including Titleist Golf Equipment and FootJoy Golf Wear, focusing on the design and distribution of golf products internationally.
