Former Fox Personality Joy Taylor Criticizes NFL Expansion Plans
Broadcast personality Joy Taylor has publicly criticized the National Football League’s reported ambition to expand the regular season to 18 games. In a recent interview with Front Office Sports, Taylor argued that the current schedule length creates a necessary scarcity that drives viewer engagement, warning that adding more games could dilute the product’s value.
Taylor, who departed from Fox Corporation in July 2025 following a restructuring of its programming lineup, suggested that the league’s existing format naturally combats the limited attention spans of modern consumers. She posited that the 17-game schedule ensures every matchup holds significance, creating a sense of urgency that might be lost if the season is further extended.
“One thing the NFL naturally had in its favor was an impeccable sense of urgency because of the length of its season,” Taylor stated. She noted that with numerous distractions competing for the public’s time, including family obligations and other entertainment options, asking fans to dedicate even more of their lives to football consumption is a risky strategy. She labeled the potential push for an 18-game schedule as “greedy” and ill-advised.
Since her exit from Fox, shares of Fox Corporation have recently traded at $69.21, giving the media giant a market capitalization of approximately $29.06 billion. The company continues to operate within the Communication Services sector, focusing on news and sports content distribution.
Beyond the schedule debate, Taylor also commented on the NFL’s global expansion efforts. While Commissioner Roger Goodell has expressed confidence that a team will eventually be located outside the United States, Taylor offered a more cautious perspective. She acknowledged that a franchise in London seems inevitable due to the logistics of travel and the absence of a language barrier. However, she joined a growing chorus of media voices warning the league not to overextend its leverage with fans.
