Kyle Kirkwood secured a victory on Sunday at the IndyCar Freedom 250 Grand Prix, navigating 147 laps around a temporary street circuit near the National Mall. The 27-year-old driver from Jupiter, Florida, finished ahead of 24 other competitors to claim the checkered flag in the nation’s capital.

The event covered approximately 250 miles, coinciding with the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations. Following the race, Kirkwood credited his team for their performance over the radio and expressed the significance of winning on home soil. He described the competition as challenging but noted that it “felt good to dominate” during the event.

Fox Corporation, which operates the cable network programming segment responsible for sports broadcasting, aired the event. The company’s stock was trading at $68.54 on Monday, reflecting a 1.39% increase from the previous close of $67.60. Fox Corporation holds a market capitalization of approximately $29.06 billion.

The race marked the first major auto racing event of its kind held in Washington, D.C., though Kirkwood expressed hope that the series would return to the circuit. He called the venue an “incredible place” to race and highlighted the presence of President Donald Trump, a fellow Floridian, at the event.

Pre-race activities earlier in the year included a pit crew demonstration at the White House, showcasing the speed of tire changes to attendees. The podium ceremony saw Kirkwood flanked by Christian Lundgaard of Denmark in second place and Australian driver Will Power in third.
