Angel Reese Sets WNBA Rebound Records in Atlanta Dream Victory

Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese delivered a historic performance on Monday night, dominating the glass to secure a 78-71 road victory over the Los Angeles Sparks. Reese finished the contest with 26 rebounds, establishing a new WNBA single-game record. The mark surpasses the previous benchmark of 24 boards set by Hall of Famer Chamique Holdsclaw in 2003.

Beyond the single-game achievement, the outing also allowed Reese to claim the league’s single-season rebounding record. Entering the game with 432 rebounds, she needed 20 to pass Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson, who recorded 451 rebounds during the 2024 season. Reese concluded the night with 458 total rebounds for the year, extending her lead atop the league’s statistical categories. Her final rebound of the evening came on a missed free throw in the waning minutes, securing the record.

The performance underscores the Dream’s competitive momentum as they approach the postseason. With the win, Atlanta improved to 25-13 on the season, maintaining a hold on the fourth spot in the league standings. The team has now won nine consecutive games against the Sparks. Reese, who is averaging 12 rebounds per game, remains the only player in the league averaging double-digit rebounds alongside Dallas Wings forward Jessica Shepard.

While Reese’s 11 points and 27th double-double of the season provided a statistical foundation, contributions from teammates Allisha Gray (20 points) and Rhyne Howard (18 points) were instrumental in the offensive execution. The Dream have clinched a playoff berth but have not advanced past the opening round since 2018. With six games remaining in the regular season, the team has an opportunity to solidify its playoff positioning.

The game took place at Crypto.com Arena, a venue operated by Comcast Corporation. Comcast, currently trading with a market capitalization exceeding $90 billion, operates venues and holds media rights that broadcast professional sports. The company’s stock saw a slight upward movement of 0.67% in the latest session.

What to watch

  • The Dream have six regular-season games remaining to finalize playoff seeding.
  • Reese is two double-doubles shy of breaking the WNBA single-season record.
  • Atlanta’s upcoming schedule as they attempt to end their first-round playoff drought.
