Fox Analysts Rank Josh Allen Above Patrick Mahomes Ahead of NFL Season
Fox Corporation analysts have sparked debate heading into the NFL regular season by naming Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as the league’s top signal-caller, placing him ahead of perennial favorite Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.
The ranking, released by six Fox Sports analysts, marks a significant shift in the narrative surrounding the two quarterbacks. Mahomes has historically held the upper hand in the matchup, boasting three Super Bowl victories and four playoff wins against Allen. However, the Fox panel believes Allen’s recent performance merits the number one spot.
Ralph Vacchiano, one of the six analysts participating in the ranking, highlighted Allen’s consistency and physical attributes. Vacchiano noted that Allen has finished in the top five of MVP voting in four consecutive years and five of the last six. He argued that Allen is already in the conversation for the best quarterback of his generation, despite the lack of a championship ring.
Vacchiano pointed to Allen’s 2024 MVP season and his ability to maintain high production levels despite a challenging supporting cast. Even without a clear number one receiver, Allen has averaged 3,700 passing yards and 27 touchdowns over the past two seasons. His rushing ability remains a key differentiator, as he is considered a lock for 500 rushing yards and double-digit touchdowns on the ground annually.
While the ranking elevates Allen, Mahomes sits at No. 2. The remainder of the top five includes Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams at No. 3, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens at No. 4, and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 5.
