The 21-year-old American athlete revealed her decision via social media on Monday evening, stating her intention to step back to recalibrate and evolve her artistry.

Liu captured global attention in February with her performance at the Milan/Cortina Olympics. Skating to Donna Summer’s “MacArthur Park Suite,” she secured the gold medal while receiving a standing ovation. Despite the recent victory, she expressed a desire to challenge herself in new environments to ensure her sport mirrors her personal growth.

In a subsequent interview with Comcast Corporation-owned NBC, Liu clarified that the break does not signify retirement. She intends to remain active in training, focusing on refining her overall artistry, spins, and jumps.
