Michigan Football Enters Season with Mostly Healthy Roster Ahead of NBC Broadcast

The Michigan football program has announced its injury status leading into the Week 1 matchup against Western Michigan, painting a largely positive picture regarding roster health. Head coach Kyle Whittingham indicated that the team emerged from fall camp in strong physical condition, with the exception of a few specific absences for the season opener.

While two players will miss the entire season—running back Micah Ka’apana and center Ace Hamilton—the immediate focus is on availability for the first game. Whittingham noted that the team avoided significant attrition during camp, though some players are currently working through short-term issues.

Notably, offensive tackle Andrew Babalola will be unavailable for the Saturday game. The former five-star recruit, who missed the previous season due to an ACL tear, has dealt with a nagging injury during recent practices. Whittingham stated that while Babalola is sidelined for Week 1, the issue is not considered long-term. He had been expected to serve as the “rhino” or sixth lineman for the offense.

On the defensive side of the ball, the news is more encouraging. Safety Rod Moore, who is recovering from a catastrophic injury, is cleared to play and is expected to see significant snaps on Saturday, though he may not yet be at his pre-injury peak. Edge rusher John Henry Daley is also fully cleared and described by the coaching staff as potentially more explosive than before. His counterpart, Dominic Nichols, is also expected to play after briefly battling a minor camp ailment.

The Week 1 contest is scheduled for a 7:36 p.m. EDT kickoff at The Big House. The game will be broadcast nationally on NBC, a property of Comcast Corporation. Comcast shares were trading at $26.83 during the session, reflecting a slight decline.
