Four Alabama Basketball Recruits From 2028 Class Reportedly Weighing Jump to 2027 Cycle

Alabama’s basketball recruiting board could get a shakeup, as four prospects holding Crimson Tide offers are reportedly considering reclassifying from the 2028 cycle into the 2027 class.

On3’s Jamie Shaw flagged five 2028 prospects this week as candidates to accelerate their timelines to college, and four of them — 5-star guard Colton Hiller, 5-star center Yann Kamagate, and 4-star forwards Isaiah Hamilton and Benji Berrouet — have been offered by Alabama, according to a report from The Tuscaloosa News.

Hamilton the priority target

Of the group, Shaw noted that Alabama got “involved early” with Hamilton, a 6-foot-6 wing at Montverde Academy in Florida. The Toronto native has international experience with Canada, competing on the Under Armour Next 16U Circuit — a grassroots platform run by Under Armour (NYSE: UAA), whose shares closed at $4.97 previously and traded around $5.14 on Wednesday, up roughly 3.52%, giving the apparel maker a market cap near $2.19 billion — and at the FIBA U17 World Cup.

Hamilton holds more than 15 offers, with Florida State and Villanova also credited with early involvement. He has no official visits scheduled yet, though that could shift quickly if he reclassifies. Alabama extended its offer on Oct. 30, 2025, ahead of SEC rivals Arkansas and Georgia, who came on in June. Missouri was the first conference program to offer the athletic wing.

There’s an NBA wrinkle worth noting: because Hamilton was born in October 2009, joining the college ranks as a freshman in 2027 would make him draft-eligible in 2028.

Recent precedent in Tuscaloosa

Reclassification is already a proven path for Alabama under coach Nate Oats. Guard Anderson Diaz, previously a 2027 prospect, moved up and committed to the Tide in July, helping push Alabama’s 2026 class to No. 6 in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Kamagate and Hiller, both rated as 5-star talents, along with Berrouet, round out the group of Tide targets whose recruitment timelines could compress in the coming months.

What to watch

  • Whether Hamilton schedules official visits, which would be a key signal on reclassification intent.
  • Updates from recruiting analysts on whether Hiller, Kamagate or Berrouet formally move to the 2027 cycle.
  • Alabama’s exhibition opener against Ole Miss on Thursday, Oct. 15, at Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, which kicks off the 2026 season.
