Mark Sanchez Moves to Plead Guilty in Indianapolis Stabbing Case

Former NFL quarterback and onetime Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has filed a motion to plead guilty in connection with an altercation last October in Indianapolis, according to Indiana court records.

Sanchez had been facing three misdemeanor counts — battery, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication — along with a felony battery charge for allegedly inflicting serious bodily injury on a truck driver during the incident, in which Sanchez himself was stabbed. It remains unclear which specific counts his plea covers.

According to multiple reports, Sanchez’s attorneys are asking for a sentencing hearing on either Nov. 9 or Nov. 16, assuming the court accepts the plea. His jury trial, initially scheduled for March 12, had been pushed back four times before most recently being reset for Sept. 8.

Corporate Fallout for Fox

The case carries business implications for Fox Corporation (FOXA), the media company that employed Sanchez as a game analyst before terminating him roughly a month after the altercation. Fox’s stock traded at $67.71 in recent action, up 1.8% from the prior close of $66.51, giving the Communication Services company a market capitalization of roughly $27.7 billion.

The legal exposure may not end with the criminal case. Perry Tole, the truck driver allegedly assaulted by Sanchez, has filed a civil lawsuit naming both Sanchez and Fox, along with Huse Culinary, the restaurant group behind St. Elmo’s Steakhouse, where the confrontation took place. Huse Culinary appears to have been dropped as a defendant, but the claims against Sanchez and Fox remain active.

Sanchez played quarterback for the New York Jets before transitioning to a broadcasting career at Fox, where he served as an analyst on the network’s football coverage.
