Ravens edge rusher Tavius Robinson says ‘connected’ defines new-look defense under Jesse Minter

As the Baltimore Ravens work through their first training camp under head coach Jesse Minter, one word keeps coming up from inside the locker room: connected. Edge defender Tavius Robinson used it repeatedly when speaking with reporters this week, describing a defense that he says is communicating and coordinating at a higher level than in years past.

Robinson pointed to a shared understanding of responsibilities as the defining trait of camp so far. In his view, players are not only learning their own roles but also each other’s — a familiarity he says is already visible in practice sessions at the Under Armour Performance Center.

The comments carry weight because pass rushing is typically framed as an individual pursuit. Robinson, however, argued that the Ravens’ rebuilt front is approaching it collectively, with the edge and interior rooms syncing their rush plans and running coordinated games off one another.

He went further on the state of the unit’s chemistry, saying this year’s group is the tightest it has been during his time in Baltimore, particularly along the defensive line. That cohesion, he suggested, allows defenders to anticipate teammates’ movements rather than simply react to them.

Whether the improved communication shows up in the sack column once the regular season begins remains an open question. But Robinson’s remarks offer a window into the cultural reset Minter is attempting in his first year leading the Ravens, where scheme installs have been paired with an emphasis on trust across position groups.

The Ravens’ training complex is named for sportswear maker Under Armour, whose shares (NYSE: UAA) traded at $5.24 on Thursday, up 0.77% from a prior close of $5.20, valuing the apparel company at roughly $2.25 billion.

Baltimore continues camp preparations ahead of its regular-season opener, with Minter’s defensive scheme among the most closely watched storylines of the team’s offseason overhaul.

What to watch

  • How the Ravens’ pass rush performs in remaining preseason reps under Minter’s system.
  • Final roster decisions along the edge rotation before cutdown day.
  • Defensive communication and penalty trends in the season opener as an early read on the unit’s cohesion.
