Tour of Britain’s Yorkshire Stage Draws Crowds, Festivities Across East Riding

Stage three of the 2026 Tour of Britain brought elite men’s cycling to Hull and East Yorkshire, with spectators, local riding clubs and a former Olympian lining the route as the peloton raced from Hull to Beverley.

Riders departed Hull before rolling through Bilton, Preston, Hedon, Withernsea, Mappleton, Hornsea, Skipsea, Langtoft and Driffield, covering approximately 120.6 miles (194.1km) with 636.8ft (1,612m) of elevation along the way. The stage concluded in Beverley, where further celebrations awaited the finishers.

The event was paired with community programming, including a free cycling festival in Hull and flag-making activities in Withernsea, where the town’s mayor helped children prepare banners for the riders’ arrival.

A Start in East Park

Racing began with a neutralised roll-out from East Park before the official start on the B1239 Wyton Road. Among the crowd was Ed Clancy, the former Olympic champion on the track and road for Great Britain, who described the atmosphere as “fantastic” and noted cycling’s appeal beyond competition, pointing to the green surroundings of East Yorkshire.

British BMX racer Ross Cullen also attended the Hull festival, calling it his first opportunity to spend time in the city and praising its cycling community.

Decorated Villages and Devoted Fans

Villages along the route turned out with bunting and decorations. One couple travelled from Scunthorpe and planned additional viewing stops in Beverley and Skipsea, while one resident watched from outside her own decorated home, describing the sense of community the race brought to the area.

The enthusiasm on display reflects broader momentum in recreational cycling and fitness culture in the UK, a market where connected-fitness companies such as Peloton Interactive also operate. Peloton (PTON) shares traded at $5.39 recently, down about 0.09% from the prior close of $5.39, giving the leisure-sector company a market capitalisation of roughly $2.39 billion.

The Tour of Britain continues to serve as a showcase for host regions, drawing roadside crowds and tourism spending across the towns it passes through.
