Jameis Winston agrees to two-year, $13 million deal to stay with the Giants

Quarterback Jameis Winston will remain with the New York Giants after the two sides agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $13 million, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The deal keeps Winston in his role backing up second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart, where he has been valued internally for his leadership in the locker room.

Winston joined the Giants in 2025 after a season with the Cleveland Browns. He appeared in three games last season, throwing for 567 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

A veteran résumé

Across an 11-year career, Winston has previously spent five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and four with the New Orleans Saints. He has appeared in 108 games, throwing for 24,792 yards with 156 touchdowns against 113 interceptions.

New coach, new season

The extension lands as the Giants prepare for their first season under head coach John Harbaugh, hired this offseason after his long tenure with the Baltimore Ravens ended. Harbaugh is tasked with reviving a franchise that has won just seven games over the past two seasons and reached the playoffs only once since 2017.

Any turnaround effort comes with high visibility: the Giants open 2026 against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” next Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET. The nationally televised spotlight benefits NBC parent Comcast Corporation (CMCSA), whose Media segment carries the marquee weekly package. Comcast shares traded at $26.49 on Thursday, down 0.64% from the prior close of $26.66, giving the company a market capitalization of roughly $94.4 billion.

For the Giants, retaining Winston provides continuity behind Dart at a relatively modest cost, while the franchise attempts to climb out of one of the league’s longer postseason droughts under new leadership.
