Giants Host Cardinals on Labor Day as NBC/Peacock Carries the National Broadcast
The San Francisco Giants open a series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday at Oracle Park, with first pitch scheduled for 5:10 p.m. PT in the teams’ 145th game of the season. Unlike typical Giants home dates, there is no regional television coverage for this one — the game is being carried nationally on NBC and its streaming platform Peacock, both properties of Comcast Corporation.
Comcast shares were trading at $26.49 on Monday, down about 0.64% from the prior close of $26.66, giving the media and telecommunications company a market capitalization of roughly $94.4 billion. Exclusive national windows such as this one are part of the broader strategy among major media companies to drive audiences toward streaming platforms, and Peacock has increasingly become a destination for marquee MLB matchups.
On the mound
The pitching matchup features two right-handers with nearly identical workloads. San Francisco hands the ball to Logan Webb, the three-time All-Star making his 26th start of the year. Webb enters at 8-8 with a 4.21 ERA and 119 strikeouts against 38 walks across 149.2 innings. He will be looking to move past a rough most recent outing, in which he allowed nine runs in just two innings against Pittsburgh.
St. Louis counters with Michael McGreevy, the 26-year-old making his 28th start. McGreevy is 6-9 with a 3.97 ERA, 102 strikeouts, and 40 walks over 147.1 innings, and is coming off a start against the Dodgers in which he surrendered four runs in five frames.
The clubs arrive with sharply different records: the Cardinals are at .500 at 72-72, while the Giants sit at 59-85.
